Joanne Rachel Dening
6/12/1983 – 20/02/2019
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that Jo Dening unfortunately died on 20th February 2019, in a paddleboard accident near Wenderhold Regional Park in Waiwera, north of Auckland, New Zealand.
She was 35 last December.
Most of you will know her mum, Christine Dening, who meets everyone when they start Learn To Swim, or later when she Referees an Event they are in, or when she is doing membership and other things as one of our Committee., or this year as Derbyshire ASA President.
Jo’s Dad, Tim, can also be found helping at lifesaving, with Christine, or being Mr Health & Safety at Events.
Siblings Christopher and Karen are also part of the lifesaving squad, and have been involved with the Club and related activities all their lives, as was Jo.
Jo was an accomplished and award winning swimmer and lifesaver, as well as a full time swimming teacher, and those of you that were at our Presentation Night last December may remember her being teased about New Zealand once or twice.
She was a lovely person, a marvellous teacher loved by all her pupils, and the wonderful Aunty Jo to Owen and Adam.
We will all miss her.
The Family are now out in New Zealand, and there is a Tribute Page here – https://www.tributes.co.nz/ViewMyTribute.aspx?id=14210 – with a message book, contact and service details out there.
Our thoughts are with them all.
They return on 15th March, and there will be a Memorial Service on Monday 18th March, 2.00pm at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Road, Swanwick, Derbyshire, DE55 1BH.
