Jacob Whittle, who trains with Ripley RASCALS and the Derbyshire County Squad, Derventio Excel, has broken the previous British Record for the male 13 year age group. He achieved this during the first weekend of the Derbyshire County Championships, 17th & 18th February 2018, held at The ARC Leisure Centre, Matlock.
As can be seen on the British Swimming website, Jacob has not only beaten the previous time of 54.09, he did it twice on the day, achieving 53.65 in the heats, and the new record of 53.61 in the final!
RASCALS Head Coach, Glenn Fisher, says he has always known the Jacob would achieve great things, “ever since he started training with our Club, I could see his committed approach and enthusiasm to keep improving was going to produce an outstanding swimmer”.
Jacob attends Tupton Hall School in Chesterfield and they know that he already has his sights set on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Before then, however, Jacob first needs to prove himself at the British Summer Championships which he is working hard to qualify for. To be selected, he will need to rank in the top 20 boys in the 13-14 age group in Great Britain, so this record is a big step towards his goal.
Jacob’s Mum, Leanne, confirms that “Jacob loves to swim, his passion, determination and focus mean that to him all the endless hours of training he does are a pleasure. Every morning when his alarm clock goes off at 4.15am he literally bounds out of bed. We couldn’t be prouder of the young man he is growing up to be!”
Well done Jacob, from everyone at RASCALS!
