Ripley Rascals swimmers recently competed in the Arena swimming league, which comprises 3 galas in the Autumn. There are three leagues – Ripley are in the Premier league of the West Midlands division, along with 23 other clubs, having been promoted from Division two last year. This meant travelling further and competing against the best clubs in the region.

The first round was held at Perdiswell, Worcester, and was against some very tough competition. Ripley did well to finish in 5thplace, with Redditch winning on the night ahead of Braunstone and Wyre Forest. City of Hereford were 4th, 17 points ahead of Ripley. Ripley won 13 races over the gala, with Jacob Whittle, George Whittle, Evan Johnson and Josh Pemberton all winning individual races.

Round 2 was also held at Worcester. Ripley finished in third place behind Worcester and Abingdon, but they turned the tables on City of Hereford by finishing a point ahead of them, with Long Eaton A in fifth place. Winners on the night for Ripley included Jacob Whittle, George Whittle, Malachy Watt, Josh Pemberton and Jamie Ingram.

The third and final round was held at Nuneaton, and saw Ripley finish in fourth place, only 2 points behind Redditch, with Chase coming in first place and Bilston second. Oliver Stone, George Whittle, Jamie Ingram, Jaden Leo, Charlotte Marshall, Josh Pemberton, Evan Johnson all won their races.

It was a fantastic performance from all the swimmers, ensuring that Ripley were the second placed club in Derbyshire. Ripley held their own against some really big clubs, and there were some excellent individual performances.

Head Coach Glenn Fisher was a very happy coach: “it’s been a real step up for us this year to be competing in the Premier League. It’s tough against some big clubs, but we’ve held our own, and I couldn’t be prouder of my swimmers”.a
